About

Welcome to Redlands Parish Church

Come and join us in our places of worship, community garden, theatre, shared meals, and thinking spaces. Each of these spaces are filled with opportunities for us to explore this life together through the faith, hope, and love of Jesus Christ. We hope that you will enjoy browsing our website, which gives a flavour of the many aspects of who we are and what we do.

At the heart of everything at Redlands Parish Church is our vision:

Creating Space for Life

The pace and places of the world are becoming increasingly frenetic and crowded, and Reading is no exception. Too often quality of life is defined by money in the bank and hours spent at the office, at the expense of genuine human connection and fellowship.

Creating Space for Life is a vision that tries to see things differently, and to use what we take for granted to encounter a deeper sense of life, and the God who sustains that.

Time and space is holy, filled with opportunities for each of us to grow closer to God, one another, and the person we were made to be. The church is called to create and share public spaces for all people in which they can learn, once again, to be truly creative and fruitful as God’s children.

Here at Redlands we have opened up our resources, including our two church buildings and parish hall and garden, to those around us in as many ways as possible, to create space for all people to encounter the world anew. At the heart of this is the God who, in Christ, has made us all one and invites us to journey with him.

Our spaces:

Space to Worship

We celebrate that God is real, that God is for us and not against us, and can be fully known through Jesus Christ. Our worship draws on 2000 years of the church’s life, bringing together old and new. You will find a genuine and warm welcome at all of our services, which include weekly Communion services, daily prayer, messy church, and Sunday Club.

Space to Create

Our Creator God inspires us to create with our minds and bodies: our thriving Community Garden nourishes both body and soul.

Space to be Social

We think there’s nothing better than when strangers become neighbours, and neighbours become friends. That’s why we host weekly toddler groups, regular coffee mornings, and even Sunday lunches.

Space to Think

Life is complicated, and faith isn’t about making it less complicated, but living with greater wisdom in the midst of uncertainty. We offer space for reflection and discussion, for ponderers and wonderers. Whether you’re into knotty philosophical debate, prefer discussing your faith and the bible in small groups, or are a teenager wanting to explore who you are and what you might do with your life there is a thinking space to welcome you.

We hope that what you read here will encourage and inspire you to join us and make our spaces your spaces. We look forward to meeting you.
